Benefits at Academia

Our benefits go beyond free food and flexible schedules. We invest in our people so they can live their best lives at work and at home. All full-time employees who have passed their probation are provided with the full suite of benefits listed here, and more.

In-house Training Programme

Fresh graduates will be trained in Academia’s curriculum over the year, working with experienced colleagues to design content, review student work, and draft student feedback. While trainees will not teach classes on their own, they will be placed as teaching assistants, and co-teach at least 100 classes over the course of the Training Contract, across different departments and different teachers. This allows new teachers to develop their own understanding of what makes a good teacher, and evaluate strategies to work with different types of student personalities. Trainees will also be given opportunities to develop a number of skills, including constructive feedback, teaching psychology, and client management.

Experienced teachers and lateral hires will undergo a month-long training programme to ensure that they are deeply familiar with the overarching MOE syllabus, and Academia’s curriculum, guidelines, and stringent standards for feedback and in-class conduct. Teachers are only allowed to teach classes once Academia is confident in their abilities and skills.

Post-Graduate Education and Certifications

At Academia, we are committed to lifelong learning. We believe that providing training for our employees not only develops their careers, but also contributes to the long-term success of our firm. That’s why as as part of our Training Contract, we sponsor trainees with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education from an accredited UK university. Teachers at all levels should talk to the People and Culture department if they are interested in further teaching credentials and certificates, particularly under the Skillsfuture Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS) scheme. We also have an annual training budget for teachers who are slated for senior head positions, and teaching counsel positions.

For staff members in Management and Administration, employees who are slated for managerial positions and above are encouraged to take specific courses in management, leadership, and strategy from local universities such as NUS, NTU, and SMU, which Academia will pay for under the ETSS scheme.

Support and Mentorship

Our People and Culture team is dedicated to helping you plan your career as a teacher at Academia. In addition to your appointed mentor, you may at any point of time schedule a meeting with either your team leader, our head of mentorship, or any People and Culture members for advice. Academia is an equal opportunity employer, and is committed to providing equal opportunities throughout employment.
